Enterprise router market starts 2013 on a down note
Boston, MASSACHUSETTS, May 30, 2013-Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 1Q13 Enterprise Routers market share and forecast report.
ANALYST NOTE
"Seasonality tends to drive down first quarter revenue for enterprise routers, but the first quarter of 2013 came in weaker than expected," notes Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst for enterprise networks and video at Infonetics Research. "Worse, unit growth has slowed considerably over the past 2 quarters."
"On the bright side," Machowinski adds, "North America bucked the downward trend and posted both sequential and year-over-year growth in enterprise router revenue, and China is the fastest growing region."
ENTERPRISE ROUTER MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
- In the first quarter of 2013 (1Q13), global enterprise router revenue declined 5% from the previous quarter, to $833 million
- From the year-ago first quarter, enterprise router sales are down 4%
- As in past quarters, low-end routers were the best performing segment, at the expense of branch routers, and dampening overall revenue growth
- Cisco, the perennial market leader, had 71.5% of revenue in 1Q13, up 1.2 points over 4Q12
- On a year-over-year basis, HP, picked up almost 1 point of share and accounted for 6.3% of revenue in 1Q13
