Coherent 100G WDM shipments tripling this year, reports Infonetics
Boston, MASSACHUSETTS, October 23, 2013-Market research firm Infonetics Research released excerpts from its 10G/40G/100G Optical Transceivers, which tracks in granular detail 10-, 40- and 100-Gigabit optical transceivers sold into the optical transport, enterprise, data center, and carrier routing and switching markets.
ANALYST NOTE
"We expected the 100G WDM market to at least double this year, but broad-based strength from many vendors and even greater than expected volumes in China lead us to believe that total coherent WDM port shipments in 2013 will be triple the volume of 2012," notes Andrew Schmitt, principal analyst for optical at Infonetics Research.
Schmitt adds: "Growth in coherent 100G WDM this year is nothing short of spectacular."
OPTICAL TRANSCEIVER MARKET HIGHLIGHTS
- In the first half of 2013 (1H13), combined 10G, 40G, and 100G transceiver revenue is up 4% over the same period a year ago, to $882 million
- Shipments of 100G coherent optics in 1H13 are up 284% over 1H12
- Unit shipments of 10G optical modules for data center applications continue to grow, while shipments of 10G into telecom applications have been flat for 18 months
